Masonry Production and Repair
160 Years of Indexed Bibliography -1837-1997

by Debra Laefer for The Masonry Society

Methods and Materials

Each entry is indexed in a variety of ways: name of author, editor, translator (if any), name and location of publisher, country of origin, language of publication (most are in English), most recent year of publication, original year of publication (if different than consulted version), type of publication (e.g. journal, product information, book), item title, and full reference data, as well as key words.

The program will allow multi-part searches such as looking for an author's work between certain years on a specific subject. If two subjects, with all of the other criteria are the same, the request can be duplicated and modified on a second form so that those references which have both subjects only appear once.

In addition to searches on authors and key words (see list below), texts can be sought or omitted based on their type (e.g. book, technical report, journal article) or on any other of the more than thirty fields.

A list list of publication types and key words with supplemental information, where required, provide background information to help the user decide which key words and publication types would be appropriate for the current search.

The database of abstracts has been put on-line so those interested in building conservation have an easily accessible way to find a significant quantity of information on preserving historic masonry buildings and monuments. However, users should be aware that The Masonry Society does not have access to most of the references in this database. Therefore Please contact your nearest university or major public library to obtain  references.
