Description:
The Masonry Society
has teamed with the American Concrete Institute to conduct a seminar series on
the Design of Masonry to the IBC and the MSJC this coming spring.
This intense one-day seminar guides attendees through
masonry design requirements while reviewing practical design examples of typical
masonry structures. Instructors will review masonry design and specification
provisions in the 2008 Masonry Standards Joint Committee’s (MSJC’s) Building
Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-08/ACI 530-08/ASCE 5-08),
which is the primary reference in the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) for
the design and construction of masonry. Several practical design examples of
typical masonry elements will be examined using the 2008 MSJC, and necessary
revisions to the design examples based on modifications in the 2009 IBC will be
discussed. In addition, a preview of the 2011 MSJC will also be presented, so
attendees can learn of the major changes that will apply when the 2012 IBC is
adopted.
Seminars are schedule on the following dates in the cities noted. If you are interested in possibly scheduling additional seminars contact TMS. Registration for these seminars will be taken by ACI and will begin in 2011. Additional information on the seminars will be posted on the seminars here as it becomes available.

Instructors will also review the structural design provisions in IBC Chapter 21, “Masonry,” with reference to masonry requirements in IBC Chapter 17, “Structural Tests and Special Inspections.” Minimum specification requirements will be reviewed as well as quality assurance and special inspection requirements.
Who should attend
The seminar will benefit both new designers and those already familiar with
masonry design, as it discusses differences between previous code requirements
