Description:
This intensive one-day seminar reviews the masonry design and
specification provisions in the new 2008 MSJC's Building Code Requirements
and Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 402/ACI 530/ASCE 5) which will
serve as the primary reference for the 2009 International Building Code (IBC)
for the design and construction of masonry. While reviewing all major portions
of the MSJC, instructors will also highlight the changes that can be expected in
the 2009 IBC, which should be finalized in concept this September. Several
practical design examples of typical masonry elements will be examined using the
2008 MSJC and necessarily revisions to the design examples based on
modifications expected in the 2009 IBC will be reviewed. This seminar is intended for practicing
engineers and architects who design masonry. Building officials and contractors that
commonly work with masonry may also find this seminar worthwhile.
Many changes have been made to the 2008 edition of the MSJC Building Code, Specification and their associated commentaries. This seminar will familiarize you with these new provisions, and how they may affect your masonry design and construction projects.
The seminar instructors, who serve on the Masonry Standards Joint Committee that made changes to these standards, will explain the major changes, why they were made, and what the changes may mean to you as a designer. You will work through real life examples that are encountered daily. By the end of this in-depth seminar, you will have a real feel for the Code, so that you can put the new Masonry Code into practice.
Since the 2009 International Building Code will reference these masonry standards, you will want to make sure to know how to use them.
Our next seminar on this topic will be presented on October 15, 2009 in Evanston, Illinois. To register, click here. To download a flyer on the seminar, click here.
