Reason for Errata
During the 2011 MSJC
cycle an inadvertent error to the 2008 MSJC was
discovered. With the reorganization of Section
1.17, a mistake was made in transcribing the
provisions for non-participating elements –
Section 1.17.4.3.1 - which accidentally omitted
the reference to Chapter 5 in the section. This
was confirmed as an error with the 2008 MSJC
Seismic Subcommittee Chair and Secretary. They
agreed there was no intention to omit Chapter 5
from this list. This was also confirmed with the
2008 MSJC Main Committee Chair. The minutes for
the subcommittee and main committees were
searched, again with no reference to this as an
intentional action. With this accidental
omission from Section 1.17.4.3.1, a conflict has
been created within the MSJC as is detailed in
the Committee ballot, which can be accessed by
clicking
here.
After being sure this was an inadvertent mistake
made during the 2008 cycle, we balloted the 2011
Seismic subcommittee to re-insert “Chapter 5”
into section 1.17.4.3.1 as errata to the 2008
MSJC. The work was coordinated with needed MSJC
Subcommittees. After a successful Seismic
Subcommittee ballot, the item was balloted at
the MSJC Main committee and approved. The
Technical Activities Committees of The Masonry
Society and the American Concrete Institute had
an opportunity to review this change when
reviewing proposed changes to the next edition
of the MSJC Standards. No opposition from TAC
was made to the Errata and it is therefore
submitted to the Public for comment. |
