On behalf
of The Masonry Society’s Research Committee, Dr. David McLean
presented the 2009 John B. Scalzi Research Award at the Awards
Luncheon in Evanston, Illinois on October 17, 2007 to Dr. P.
Benson Shing of the University of California at San Diego. for his
outstanding contributions to masonry research. During the
presentation of the award, McLean noted Shing was unable to
attend the meetings, and expressed his disappointment in missing
the presentation. McLean noted that Shing has made numerous
contributions to masonry research in his career, doing
exceptional studies on masonry shear walls, infills and veneer.
He also noted that Shing was TMS Journal Editor, and before the,
an Associate Editor and Reviewer, for many years.
Shing joins a distinguished list of
